About Us

For decades Dallas and Kate Kinzett have been breeding horses capable of excelling at any discipline, for any level of rider.  The Kinzetts come from a strong horse background. Both their fathers were interested in horses and at one time stood the thoroughbred stallion Red Ink between them. Kate and Dallas are well known on the hunt field and in eventing circles in Marlborough and Nelson.  They first started breeding when they moved to the Tutaki Valley near Murchison in 1978, mainly using thoroughbreds, continuing with the same good line of horses bred by their fathers. Both are judges with the Royal Agricultural Society which makes Kate and Dallas their own harshest critics. Each year they decide which of their 16 mares are going to which stallion.  We are very particular about what we breed to, nearly every one of  the Kinzett mares are proven under saddle, whether its as a full wire hunter, eventer, dressage  or stock horse. The majority of foals are sold as weanlings, the Kinzetts allow prospective buyers to “pre-order their foal, choosing which mare and stallion, this gives people a chance to breed their own foal without having to have their own broodmare. They also keep a limited number for hunting, stockwork and private treks for overseas visitors.  Both Kate and Dallas have several special show horses of their own that when they are not busy judging that they compete on. Add to all this, in the hunt season they are both avid followers of the Starborough Hunt.
