Zala
Zala is one of our top mares, she is a stunning 16.3 HH Zabalu mare. With excellent conformation passed onto her offspring she now has a string of stunning youngsters on the ground. All are beautifully put together and have been very competitive as youngsters in the show rings of both the North and South Island.
Her oldest Tiraumea Donegal, by Gentleman George, now 7 years, is a well established competing Show Hunter, Show Jumper and accomplished full wire hunter. Donegal performed very well at his first Horse of the Year 201o, taking Third in Amatuer Show Hunter of the Year along with two other top placings. His first season show jumping he is consistently placed -
5th -1.1o Taupo Christmas Classic, 1st 1.10 Woodhill Sands, 2nd – 1.20 Woodhill Sands Jan in his first 1.20 class. 6th- 1.15 Horse of the Year 2011.
Next came Tiraumea McCauley, by Gentleman George. She is a full sister to Donegal above. McCauley matured 16.2HH and is owned by Sarah Hewitt in Kaikohe. Here’s what she has to say about her girl.
Postscript: Tiraumea McCauley has been sold to Andrew Duff, Master of the Northland Hunt Club. We wish you all the best with “Cauley” – we know that she is going to do you proud.
“I bought Cauley (Harlem Swing) from Kate and Dallas as an unbroken 3.5 yo. She is now 7 and admittedly we haven’t done a lot but she is my mate and I wouldn’t trade her for the world. On the day she arrived she had travelled for several days from Murchison to the top of the North Island, she got out of the truck in a blazing wind, in a new place and there were roofers on our roof waving big sheets of iron around, none of it phased her! Having been broken in for 2 months we went to several A + P shows and it is a testament to her temperament that she didn’t put a foot wrong. The people that broke her in wanted to buy her and she turns heads on the rare occasions that we do venture out.
She takes me through creeks, forestrys and wherever else I want to go. She has been bogged up to her wither in a swamp (I thought it was the end) but she calmly ate grass and let me help her to get out without fretting or stressing.
I am so pleased with what Kate and Dallas do I am giving them a broodmare who I evented for 13 years knowing they will look after her and hopefully get some use out of her even tho she is my big girl”.

Tiraumea Bounty was Zala’s 2004 foal, a beautiful bright bay with four stockings and a blaze. Bounty is a full sister to Tiraumea Donegal (above) and is showing huge potential achieving great results as a 3 year old at the Horse and Pony in-hand show.
In 2005 Zala had a lovely grey colt foal Coachman by Tiraumea Flint. He is now 4 and just started competing in dressage with his very first test achieving the great result of 66%. We look forward to following Coachman as his dressage/eventing career develops.
Coachman jumping video taken July 2011- just turned 6 and at his first jumping lesson.
COACHMAN IS NOW SOLD Please contact Tiraumea Sporthorses for owners contact details.

Zala was put to Ironman and in 2008 produced a very pretty filly called Lacey. Presently Lacey is still at Tiraumea, we are considering retaining her to incorporate her into our breeding program. However we do invite expressions of interest from competitive show-jumping homes.
We were absolutely delighted with this very upstanding colt, Gentleman George’s final foal. He is a full brother to Tiraumea Donegal (above). Tiraumea Grey Way will be retained by the stud as a future Stallion to continue this most successful jumping line. He has incredible bone, great conformation, we expect him to mature 17HH+. This cross has produced exceptional type sports horses. We will keep this page updated on how this young colt develops.
